You know the feeling– you’re so excited to begin your workout. Then, as soon as you begin, you lose all motivation to keep going. It happens to all of us, even me!
One thing to remember is that your mind is a lot stronger than you think it is. While you may think you’re ready to give up, there’s a good chance your mindset is the culprit of that.
Here are a few tips for staying motivated during a workout.
1. Have an uplifting playlist
Nothing beats hearing some of your favorite artists playing through your headphones during an intense run. The music itself can keep you on pace, or even encourage you to speed up, while the actual words can keep you pushing on to finish your workout.
Some awesome genres to work out to are R&B, Pop, and Rap, however, everyone has their own preferences. Find the music that speaks to you and make the perfect playlist to accompany you during your workout.
2. Focus on hydration
One reason you may feel like you’re falling behind on your workouts is because you’re not hydrated. While it’s not easy for everyone to stay hydrated, it’s important to do so, especially as you’re working out.
A good way to remember to drink water throughout the day is to fill your water bottle up as soon as you wake up in the morning and bring it with you everywhere you go, including to the gym or on a run outside.
For those who are really bad at drinking the suggested amount of water for themselves, look into gallon water bottles. These make drinking water more like a fun challenge against yourself. See how many days you can get your full amount in!
3. Change it up on occasion
As much as working out is fun, doing the same workout every day can be boring. While spring, summer, and even early fall are awesome since you can switch up your surroundings and choose to work out in different places outside, winter makes this not so easy.
While many people are able to run in the winter, others find it too cold or even shy away from running in the snow (I don’t blame you!) This causes many people to be forced to work out from home or at their local gym.
Running on a treadmill every day and staring at the same blank wall can be tough. Try to join a fitness class or incorporate different activities to make working out fresh and fun every single time.
What are some ways you keep working out motivational and different each day? Do you switch between lifting, running, and lighter workouts like yoga? Or do you find your one set routine works for you?
