As you can see, my big focus this month is nutrition. That’s because now is the key time to get your wellness plan in check— and keep it there.
The winter months are tough for everyone, especially those who are limited on activities due to cold temperatures and inclement weather. While gyms and even at-home workout gear (link to prior blog post) can help, for some, the motivation to live and eat mindfully seems to go away as winter approaches (and the seemingly never-ending holiday dishes call our name!)
So, how do you eat mindfully when doing everything at home? You plan.
The first step for almost anything is to plan. This means coming up with a designated day to get groceries, a meal plan, and finding the time to cook healthier.
The hardest part of doing everything at home is it’s extremely easy to snack on some chips while you’re on a work call, which soon leads to needing to fill up on sugars and carbs every time you’re trying to accomplish something.
Buying healthy groceries eliminates the desire to snack on something you know is sitting in the cupboard. Furthermore, meal planning allows you to have something to look forward to. Instead of filling your lunch break with chips and cookies, you can spend your day being productive and looking forward to the meal you’re going to prepare (or already have prepared) for lunch!
The truth is, those who spend a lot of time at home have the ability to create an awesome and healthy lifestyle if they are able to make a plan for one. The downfall is, sometimes, we all like to get out of the house for a change of scenery. This can often lead to a habit of eating out for lunch every day at fast food chains or (and we’re probably all guilty of this) getting a sugary iced latte to replace a balanced breakfast.
The takeaway? Plan, plan, plan.
As mentioned above, meal planning, grocery shopping, and even trying your hand in cooking are all ways to improve your efforts towards mindful eating at home. With the right amount of time, dedication and preparation, you can master it and get to feeling like your best self.
