As March draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the impactful events and milestones of Neuromyelitis Optica Awareness Month. Reflecting on a journey that began 9 years ago, my world was forever altered by the devastating diagnosis of Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), which primarily affects the brain, optic nerve, and spinal cord, and can lead to severe neurological consequences. Plunged into the fight for my life, I found myself on life support, blind, and paralyzed. The doctors’ prognosis seemed bleak – they said I may not see, walk, or practice medicine again. But through the grace of God, on this NMO Awareness Month, I stand tall, a living testament to resilience amidst adversity. Every step forward is a victory, and every breath is a reminder of the strength within. This month has been a testament to the strength and resilience of the NMO community, highlighting both the challenges and triumphs associated with this rare autoimmune disorder.

A Mission Born from Adversity
As I look back on my journey through two major health scares, it becomes increasingly clear that this path I’m on is not just a personal choice, but a God-given mission. These experiences, as daunting as they were, have not only shaped me but also illuminated a purpose far greater than I could have imagined.
In facing and overcoming these challenges, I’ve been entrusted with a profound responsibility and a calling—to educate, empower, and advocate for those affected by Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO). It’s a role I embrace wholeheartedly, driven by a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
This mission goes beyond just spreading awareness; it’s about creating a community where shared experiences become a source of strength. Every story of struggle and triumph over NMO not only enlightens but also fosters a bond of solidarity and hope
