Who Started Mental Health Month?
Since 1949, Mental Health America and its affiliates have observed May as Mental Health Month by reaching out to millions of people through the media, local events, and screenings. In addition, they always invite other organizations to join them in spreading the word. As a Women’s Health and Lifestyle Coach, Dr. Kina Peppers MD has worked with several women to help strike a healthy balance in their lives through wellness and health. Dr. Kina Peppers MD passionately and proudly supports Mental Health America with its cause during the month of May and all year round.
What is Mental Health Month?
After the last two years of pandemic living, many people realize that stress, isolation, and uncertainty have taken a toll on their well-being. Therefore, this year, MHA’s 2022 Mental Health Month theme is “Back to Basics.” Their goal is to provide foundational knowledge about mental health & mental health conditions and information about what people can
do if their mental health is a cause for concern. You can download Mental Health America’s 2022 Mental Health Awareness Month toolkit here. We also invite you to follow Dr. Kina Peppers MD on all social media at @drkinamd to embark on this journey as a community through helpful health and lifestyle tips. Remember, it is okay to not be okay. We can all heal together! Let’s start with 4 Easy Steps to Look After your Mental Health.
Getting help
If you are concerned that you are developing a mental health problem, you should seek the advice and support of your GP or medical specialist as a matter of priority. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations.
Also visit the online treatment locator, or send your zip code via text message: 435748 (HELP4U) to find help near you. Read more about the HELP4U text messaging service.
