1. Start with mindful shopping
Never shop for groceries when you’re hungry. When you’re hungry, everything looks good and you have a tendency to purchase higher calorie foods. Remember it’s not only how you eat but what you eat. Fresh fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants are a great start. Always have a grocery list which helps sticking to a healthy eating plan. Ask yourself whether or not an item supports your health goals before placing it into your shopping cart.
2. Remove distractions
Turn off the television and put your phone away. Distractions lead to overeating and weight gain. Put your full attention on the eating experience.
3. Start with a reasonable amount of food
Use a smaller plate and decrease portion size.
4. Put your full attention on your meal
Keep your thoughts on the experience of eating.
5. Chew slowly and thoroughly
The faster you eat, the more you’ll eat. Take your time!
6. Enjoy your food and have fun
Pay attention to your emotions and give yourself the chance to enjoy it.
7. Eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full
Remove the food from yours sight, “Out of sight is Out of mind”.
Much of the eating experience is lost if you’re not paying attention. Eat mindfully and notice the impact it has on your life. A mindful eater is a healthier eater and on this weight loss journey, the pounds that melt away as a result of mindful eating can decrease the morbidity and mortality for generations to come.
